FETISH (from Latin factītius, adj. made by art or artfully made; later, feitiço (Portuguese), noun meaning charm, sorcery)
A “sacred” object believed to have special powers; any object of superstitious veneration or devotion. Examples are the “incorruptible” body parts of dead saints, talismans, amulets. In pseudo-Christian labyrinth-walking, carrying a fetish is sometimes recommended.
God said, “I am against your magic charms. . . . I will set free the people that you ensnare” (Ezekiel 13:20).
